4 year-old Maci Reed has been declared missing after being swept away by the Pima Flood.
On Thursday night a family that was driving a vehicle was hit by a storm and the rescue team was able to rescue both parents and three siblings who were able to climb to the top of the vehicle but a 4 year-old was swept away in the flood who was identified as Maci Reed.
The search which started at about 9:22 pm Thursday night was paused after precipitation created dangerous search zones on Saturday.
The local Graham County Search & Rescue and a large volunteer force helped the search for the 4 year-old. They also received help from other counties which included Cochise County SAR, Greenlee County SAR, and Arizona Department of Safety Ranger.
The police are of the opinion that the search may have turned from rescue to recovery.
On Friday, the search party was large as volunteers searched with their private vehicles, horses, watercraft. Planes, helicopters as well as kayak as they search the Gila River, which drains Cottonwood Wash.
There was a large amount of rainfall on Friday night which led to a very muddy search areas on Saturday. The search was suspended by the police on Saturday after it rained all day which led to unsafe search conditions.
A ‘search for Maci’ group was created on Facebook to help pass information on the progress and details of the search. A ‘pray for Maci’ tag was also created to help support her family.
As at Sunday 25th of July the search was still ongoing and no recent development has been made on the search. Those in the area who wants to join the search can visit the groups on Facebook.
